Light-triggered degradation

Table of contents graphic from Fomina N. et al., Macromolecules 2011.  Light triggers degradation, as absorption of light by the Br-containing group triggers a cascade of self-degradative reactions.

Cytosolic delivery

Artist rendering of cytosolic release from nanoparticles made from our dually pH-responsive polymer. The acidic environment of the endosome increases solubility, which allows rapid degradation and a burst of release.

Particles releasing contents

After polymer has degraded into small pieces (yellow), contents (blue) are released.

Nanoparticles can co-encapsulate MRI agents and therapeutics

Nanoparticle enabling theranostics: when it breaks down, it releases both the MRI agent (gray, which increases movement of water molecules, pink/purple) and the therapeutic (blue).
